The Destroyer and the Sovereignty of the Creator

A Hebraic Perspective on Evil, Judgement, and Sovereignty

Most have been taught that Satan is the source of destruction, death, and calamity.  But the Scriptures tell a different story, one that affirms YaHuWaH’s complete sovereignty. This article will expose the false doctrine of an external “devil” as a separate destroyer and restore a Hebrew mindset that recognizes YaHuWaH as both Life-Giver and Judge.

Unlearning the Lie – The Invention of the External Destroyer

Origins of the “Satan” Doctrine

The Hebrew Roots of “Satan”

The word satan (שָׂטָן) appears in the Tanakh as a function or role, not as a personal name. It means:

Adversary

Opponent

One who withstands

In Hebrew usage, satan is a title or description for anyone acting in opposition. It is never introduced as a cosmic rebel or enemy of YaHuWaH.

Examples:

Numbers 22:22 — “And the messenger of YaHuWaH stood in the way as an adversary [l’satan] לְשָׂטָ֣ן against him.”
→ This messenger (malak) is sent by YaHuWaH to oppose Balaam.

1 Samuel 29:4 — “But the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him, and the princes of the Philistines said to him, “Send the man back, let him return to the place which you have appointed for him, and do not let him go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become our adversary. For with what could he appease his master, if not with the heads of these men?”. David is called a potential satan to the Philistines.

These passages reveal that the word satan was never used to describe a demonic entity, only someone fulfilling a specific adversarial role, often under divine command.

Influence of Pagan Dualism

By the time of the Second Temple period, Hebrew thought was infiltrated by Babylonian and Persian dualism, especially the idea of:

Good vs. Evil gods

Light vs. Darkness as equal forces

A devil-like being who opposes the Creator

Zoroastrianism introduced the notion of an evil being (Angra Mainyu) locked in eternal war against a good god (Ahura Mazda). This directly contradicts the Hebrew view that YaHuWaH is one and sovereign over all (Deut. 6:4).

Later, Greek philosophy and gnostic mysticism further twisted the Biblical worldview, leading to the emergence of a powerful demonic being called Satan in post-Biblical theology, especially in early Christianity.

The Church’s Role in Inventing the Devil

As the early Roman Church merged paganism with Scripture, it invented a spiritual boogeyman to control the masses. The “Devil” became:

The cause of all evil

A scapegoat for human failure

The enemy to fight through rituals and church authority

This gave rise to entire theologies based on fear of Satan rather than reverence for YaHuWaH.

Truth: Scripture teaches that all power and judgment belong to YaHuWaH alone. There is no enemy equal to Him.

The Danger of Dualism

What Is Dualism?

Dualism is the belief in two opposing divine powers. It creates a battlefield theology where:

Evil operates independently of YaHuWaH

Believers live in fear of demonic forces

Suffering is explained by “Satanic attack” instead of divine correction

Hebraic Monotheism vs. Greek Dualism

To understand how the false Satan doctrine took root, we must understand the shift from a Hebrew worldview to a Greek one after the resurrection of Yahusha.

The Hebrew mind is monistic. Everything is under the control of YaHuWaH, light and dark, blessing and curse.

The Greek mind is dualistic. It splits the world into two opposing forces: good vs. evil, spirit vs. matter, God vs. Satan.

This Greek mindset, brought into the faith by early church fathers like Justin Martyr and Origen, was foreign to the Hebraic authors of Scripture. It allowed a false cosmology to flourish, one where Satan became a “god of this world” battling against the Creator.

In contrast, Hebraic Scripture declares:

“See now that I, I am He, And there is no Elohim besides Me. I put to death and I make alive. I have wounded, and I heal. And from My hand no one delivers!” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy)‬ ‭32‬:‭39‬‬

“forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil (ra). I, YaHuWaH, do all these.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah)‬ ‭45‬:‭7‬‬

YaHuWaH alone governs both blessing and judgment. When people ignore this, they:

Blame Satan for everything

Miss the call to repentance

Deny that YaHuWaH disciplines His children

Removing Accountability

Dualism lets people believe:

“I’m under attack” instead of “I need to repent”

“A demon is causing this” instead of “YaHuWaH is correcting me”

This distorts our view of judgment, mercy, and covenant relationship.

Key Misused Passages – Clarified in Context

Isaiah 14 – The “Lucifer” Lie

This chapter does not describe Satan. It’s a judgment against the King of Babylon:

“that you shall take up this proverb against the sovereign of Baḇel” Yeshayahu (Isaiah)‬ ‭14‬:‭4‬ ‭‬‬

The word “Lucifer” appears only in Latin translations. In Hebrew, it’s helel ben shachar — “shining one, son of the dawn,” a sarcastic taunt at a proud human ruler.

Ezekiel 28 – Prince of Tyre, Not a Fallen Angel

This oracle targets a human king who exalted himself as a god.

“You were in Eden…” symbolic language comparing the king’s former glory and fall, not a historical account of a rebellious angel.

Luke 10:18 – A Vision, Not a History

“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

Yahusha says this after the disciples cast out demons. It is not a reference to an ancient fall, but a symbolic statement:

The power of the adversary was broken

Authority was being restored to the faithful

YaHuWaH’s Exclusive Sovereignty in All Realms

No Other Elohim Beside Him

The foundation of all Hebraic belief is that YaHuWaH is absolutely sovereign. There is no equal force, no rival deity, and no realm where He is not in control.

“You have been shown it, to know that YaHuWaH Himself is Elohim; there is no one beside Him.” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy)‬ ‭4‬:‭35‬‬

“And you shall know today, and shall recall to your heart that YaHuWaH Himself is Elohim in the heavens above and on the earth beneath; there is none else.” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy)‬ ‭4‬:‭39‬

“I am YaHuWaH, and there is none else – there is no Elohim besides Me. I gird you, though you have not known Me, so that they know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none but Me. I am YaHuWaH, and there is none else, forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil. I, YaHuWaH, do all these.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah)‬ ‭45‬:‭5‬-‭7

“Declare and bring near, let them even take counsel together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has declared it from that time? Is it not I, YaHuWaH? And there is no mighty one besides Me, a righteous Ěl and a Saviour, there is none besides Me.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah)‬ ‭45‬:‭21‬ ‭‬‬

These verses destroy the foundation of dualism and crush the myth of a competing cosmic enemy.

Word Study: “Ra” (Evil)

Hebrew: רַע (ra) – Meaning: adversity, calamity, disaster, judgment, not necessarily “moral evil”

YaHuWaH does not do moral evil, but He sends adversity and judgment as a righteous judge.

Creator of Light and Darkness, Peace and Evil

YaHuWaH is not just the Creator of “good things”, He is Master of everything. To say otherwise is to deny His total authority.

Examples of YaHuWaH Creating or Sending Judgment:

The Flood (Genesis 6–7) – “I will destroy man whom I have created…” – YaHuWaH

Sodom and Gomorrah – (Genesis 19) Fire and brimstone come from YaHuWaH, not Satan.

The Plagues of Egypt – (Exodus 7–12) Each plague is sent by YaHuWaH to demonstrate His power over Egypt’s false gods.

Yisrael and Yahudah’s Exile – “Because they have forsaken My Torah…” – YaHuWaH raises up enemy nations to punish His people.

All of these destructive events are not satanic attacks, they are acts of divine justice.

The Role of “The Destroyer” in Exodus 12

This verse is one of the most misunderstood in the Bible:

“And YaHuWaH shall pass on to smite the Mitsrites, and shall see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and YaHuWaH shall pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to smite you.” Shemoth (Exodus)‬ ‭12‬:‭23‬

Who Is the “Destroyer”?

It is not Satan. The destroyer is a messenger (malak) sent by YaHuWaH, under His authority, to carry out judgment.

This same pattern is seen in many places throughout Scripture:

YaHuWaH sends plagues, famines, or pestilence.

His messengers carry out the destruction.

When Scripture speaks of destruction, it is YaHuWaH who initiates, authorizes, and limits it, not some rogue spiritual entity.

“Satan” in the Tanakh – An Office, Not a Being

Word Study: “Satan” as a Role

Strong’s H7854 – Hebrew: שָׂטָן (satan) “adversary, accuser, opponent”. Not a proper name in Hebrew, but a function or title.

Examples:

Numbers 22:22 — The messenger (malak) of YaHuWaH opposes Balaam “as a satan.”

1 Samuel 29:4 — David might become a “satan” (adversary) to the Philistines.

Psalms 109:6 — “Set a satan over him…”

The word “satan” refers to a function of opposition, not a fallen angel or cosmic enemy.

Job’s Adversary Operates Under Divine Authority

The “Satan” in Job 1–2

The satan is in the heavenly court, operating under strict permission from YaHuWaH.

He does not act independently.

YaHuWaH sets the boundaries: “And YaHuWaH said to Satan, “See, all that he has is in your hand. Only do not lay a hand on himself.” And Satan went out from the presence of YaHuWaH.”
‭‭Iyoḇ (Job)‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬

Job later says: “But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Indeed, should we accept only good from Elohim, and not accept evil?” In all this Iyoḇ did not sin with his lips.”
‭‭Iyoḇ (Job)‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭‬‬

The takeaway: Even the “evil” Job experienced was under YaHuWaH’s control, not Satan’s rebellion.

Zechariah 3: A Legal Role

In Zechariah’s vision:

The satan stands to accuse the high priest Yahusha.

YaHuWaH rebukes the satan, not because it is evil, but because Yahusha is chosen and cleansed.

This paints the satan as a legal functionary, not a supernatural villain.

The Misuse of Job, Zechariah 3, and 1 Chronicles 21

Let’s now examine three passages often used to support the idea of an external Satan being a real enemy of YaHuWaH. Each of these, when properly understood, further disproves the external adversary doctrine.

In Job, the “satan” (hasatan) appears as an accuser in the heavenly council. But pay attention: he can do nothing without YaHuWaH’s permission (Job 1:12, 2:6). He is not an enemy of the Creator, he is functioning as a kind of prosecutor. This character’s power is extremely limited, and his very presence in the divine court shows he is subordinate.

“And he showed me Yehoshua the high priest standing before the messenger of YaHuWaH, and Satan standing at his right hand to be an adversary to him. And YaHuWaH said to Satan, “YaHuWaH rebuke you, Satan! YaHuWaH who has chosen Yerushalayim rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” Zeḵaryah (Zechariah)‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭2‬‬

Here, “the satan” is again a role, a legal adversary in a heavenly court. This is not a red dragon with horns, it’s a judicial accuser. YaHuWaH rebukes this accuser, not because he is evil, but because Yahusha the priest has been chosen for mercy.

Chronicles 21:1 vs. 2 Samuel 24:1

These two verses speak of the same event—David taking a census of Yisrael.

“And Satan stood up against Yisrael, and moved Dawiḏ to number Yisrael.” Diḇre haYamim Aleph (1 Chronicles)‬ ‭21‬:‭1‬ ‭‬‬

“And again the displeasure of YaHuWaH burned against Yisrael, and moved Dawiḏ against them to say, “Go, number Yisrael and Yehuḏah.” Shemu’ĕl Bĕt (2 Samuel)‬ ‭24‬:‭1‬‬

Who incited David? In one version, it says “Satan,” but in the original Hebraic context, it likely means an adversarial spirit or agent allowed by YaHuWaH. The parallel verse says YaHuWaH Himself did it, in His wrath. There is no contradiction, only a reaffirmation of sovereignty.

YaHuWaH Sends Evil Spirits, Not Satan

In a world where we’ve been conditioned to see judgment as something “bad” or “evil,” the Scriptures paint a radically different picture. Destruction, when executed by YaHuWaH, is always righteous, just, and purposeful. It is not chaos, it is divine order being reestablished.

“If a shophar is blown in a city, do the people not tremble? If there is calamity in a city, shall not YaHuWaH have done it?” Amos‬ ‭3‬:‭6

“forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil (ra). I, YaHuWaH, do all these.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah)‬ ‭45‬:‭7‬‬

The Hebrew word “ra” (רַע) is often translated “evil,” but it primarily means calamity, adversity, or disaster, not moral wickedness. This distinction is crucial. YaHuWaH is not morally evil, He is qodesh (set-apart), but He does bring calamity as a means of discipline, justice, and covenant enforcement.

When we see destruction in Scripture, such as the flood, the plagues in Mitsrayim (Egypt), or the fall of Yerushalayim, we are not witnessing the hand of a rogue spiritual force. We are witnessing the righteous hand of a sovereign King who brings both blessing and curse in accordance with covenant.

1 Kings 22:19-23

“Then he said, “Therefore hear the word of YaHuWaH: I saw YaHuWaH sitting on His throne, and all the host of the heavens standing by Him, on His right and on His left. “And YaHuWaH said, ‘Who shall entice Aḥaḇ to go up and fall at Ramoth Gil‛aḏ?’ And this one said this, and another said that. “And a spirit came forward and stood before YaHuWaH, and said, ‘Let me entice him.’ “And YaHuWaH said to him, ‘In what way?’ And he said, ‘I shall go out and be a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And He said, ‘Entice him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ “And now, see, YaHuWaH has put a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and YaHuWaH has spoken evil concerning you.” Melaḵim Aleph (1 Kings)‬ ‭22‬:‭19‬-‭23‬ ‭‬‬

YaHuWaH sits on His throne.

Hosts of heaven stand before Him.

A spirit volunteers to deceive Ahab’s prophets.

YaHuWaH says, “You shall persuade him, and prevail… Go forth and do so.”

YaHuWaH authorizes lying spirits. Nothing happens without His command.

Judges 9:23

“and Elohim sent an evil spirit between Aḇimeleḵ and the masters of Sheḵem. And the masters of Sheḵem acted treacherously against Aḇimeleḵ,” Shophetim (Judges)‬ ‭9‬:23‬

This is not Satanic chaos. It’s divine intervention for judgment.

Evil Spirits Are Subject to YaHuWaH

All “spirits” operate in a hierarchy under YaHuWaH’s rulership. The idea of rogue demons warring against heaven is foreign to the Tanakh.

Even evil is subject to the will and timing of the Most High.

Spiritual Warfare Is a Distraction From Repentance

Christian Deliverance Doctrine — A Theological Misdirection

The “deliverance” movement hinges on a dangerous misinterpretation: that evil spirits operate independently of YaHuWaH’s authority, needing to be cast out in the Name of Messiah. But this belief rests on a faulty foundation, the idea that a being called “Satan” roams freely, possessing people at will.

Yet, in Scripture, we find no precedent for “casting out” invisible spiritual entities as practiced in modern charismatic circles. Yahusha rebuked unclean spirits, yes—but even these events are misunderstood. The word for “demon” (Greek daimonion) is never found in the Tanakh. These “spirits” were often manifestations of mental illness, consequences of generational sin, or used by YaHuWaH Himself for judgment – “And the Spirit of YaHuWaH turned aside from Sha’ul, and an evil spirit from YaHuWaH troubled him.” Shemu’ĕl Aleph (1 Samuel)‬ ‭16‬:‭14‬ ‭‬‬

Moreover, deliverance ministries often turn into legalistic rituals and performance-based righteousness, where a person is told their freedom is blocked by invisible strongholds rather than calling them to repentance, Torah obedience, and healing through the Ruach haQodesh.

Many teach that personal struggles are due to demons such as the poverty demon, the lust demon, and the fear demon.

This removes personal responsibility. But the true Biblical pattern is that disobedience brings consequences. Not demonic attacks.

Yahusha never teaches His disciples to perform dramatic exorcisms in worship services. Instead, He teaches them to preach the Kingdom, call people to repent, and live lives rooted in truth and obedience, not in fear of invisible enemies.

“Casting out demons” becomes the solution to personal sin and societal decay.

This theology misplaces the cause of suffering from disobedience to Torah to an external attacker.

The Problem with ‘Spiritual Warfare’ Theology

Ephesians 6 is frequently cited as the foundation of Christian spiritual warfare:

“Put on the complete armour of Elohim, for you to have power to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Eph`siyim (Ephesians)‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭‬‬

But take a closer look: the armor is entirely metaphorical and rooted in Torah concepts:

Belt of Truth — Emet (truth) is Torah (Psalm 119:142).

Breastplate of Righteousness — Tzedakah (righteousness) is obedience to Torah.

Shield of Faith — Emunah (faith) is trust in YaHuWaH’s Word and promises.

Sword of the Spirit — The Word of Elohim, which is the Torah (Hebrews 4:12).

There is no mention here of binding demons, casting out spirits, or warring in heavenly places through shouting or ritual. The warfare is internal, not cosmic. Paul was teaching first-century believers to stand firm in Torah obedience and avoid deception.

The real enemy is not an external spirit, it’s the flesh, the lawless heart, and the deceitfulness of sin (James 1:14).

Torah as the True Armor

Paul’s “Armor of Elohim” (Ephesians 6) is not about demon-fighting, but Torah living:

Belt of truth = walking in Torah truth (Psalm 119:142)

Breastplate of righteousness = obedience (Deut. 6:25)

Sword of the Spirit = Word of Elohim (Torah)

This imagery comes from Isaiah 59 and other Tanakh passages, not Roman warfare.

Rebellion Invites Judgement, Not Demonic Oppression

The prophets constantly called Yisrael to repentance, not to fight spirits.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – Humility and repentance bring healing.

The Prophets Called for Repentance, Not Warfare

“and My people upon whom My Name is called, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I shall hear from the heavens, and forgive their sin and heal their land.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles)‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬‬

The solution was always repentance, not “binding the devil.”

Fear of YaHuWaH Replaces Fear of Satan

The Beginning of Wisdom

“The fear of YaHuWaH is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Mishlĕ (Proverbs)‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬

“Let us hear the conclusion of the entire matter: Fear Elohim and guard His commands, for this applies to all mankind!” Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes)‬ ‭12‬:‭13‬‬

When we fear Satan instead of YaHuWaH we live in anxiety, we rely on false protection methods, and we misdiagnose judgement as attack.

YaHuWaH as Righteous Judge and Destroyer

Destruction is not always wrath. Sometimes it is correction, mercy, and justice.

“YaHuWaH has made Himself known, He has done right-ruling; The wrong is snared in the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah.” Tehillim (Psalms)‬ ‭9‬:‭16

“See now that I, I am He, And there is no Elohim besides Me. I put to death and I make alive. I have wounded, and I heal. And from My hand no one delivers!” Deḇarim (Deuteronomy)‬ ‭32‬:‭39‬‬

The Last Days – Deception and False “Spiritual Battles”

Revelation Misreadings

Revelation presents Satan as Bound (Rev. 20:2), Released (20:3), Cast down (Rev. 12:9), Ultimately destroyed. But in every case, Satan is permitted or limited by YaHuWaH. He is not a free agent.

Strong Delusion from YaHuWaH

“And for this reason Elohim sends them a working of delusion, for them to believe the falsehood,” Tas`loniqim Bĕt (2 Thessalonians)‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬‬

Delusion, deception, and judgment are part of the divine plan.

Not everything scary is demonic. Sometimes it’s divine correction.

The Destroyer in the Book of Revelation – Still Under YaHuWaH’s Authority

The Beasts and the Dragon Are Given Authority

Revelation 13:5,7 – “And there was given unto him a mouth…”, “It was given unto him to make war…”

Authority is never stolen; it’s granted by YaHuWaH to fulfill prophecy and judgement.

Revelation 9 – Abaddon/Apollyon: The Destroyer

The fifth trumpet releases “the destroyer” from the abyss.

His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon (Destroyer).

But this release is part of judgement ordered from Heaven, not a hellish uprising.

Revelation 17:17

“For Elohim has put in their hearts to fulfill His will…” (referring to kings who cooperate with the Beast)

Even in the height of “evil” YaHuWaH remains fully in control.

Hebraic Worldview of “Evil” and Disaster

Hebrew Language: Ra (Evil)

Ra (Strong’s H7451) = bad, calamity, disaster, not necessarily sin. Often refers to judgment or natural consequence, not spiritual malevolence.

Examples:

Jonah 3:10 – “Elohim repented of the ra that He said He would do unto them.”

Amos 3:6 – “Shall there be ra in a city, and YaHuWaH has not done it?”

Ancient Near Eastern Context

In Hebraic thought, Elohim controlled the totality of creation; there was no room for rival gods or spiritual rebels. Calamity was never arbitrary; it was a message, a correction, a call to return.

Accountability vs. Blame Shifting

The Blame Game Began in the Garden

Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent.

The serpent was cursed, but both humans were held accountable.

In Hebrew thought, the focus is on the human heart, not an external tempter.

Torah Emphasizes Individual Responsibility

Deuteronomy 30:19 – “I have set before you life and death… choose life.”

Ezekiel 18:20 – “The soul that sins, it shall die…”

Blaming Satan removes the weight of our own disobedience. Hebrew Scripture calls us to introspection and teshuvah (repentance), not spiritual scapegoating.

Angels, Malakim, and Destroyers – All Under Divine Command

No Angel or “Fallen” Being Acts Independently

Psalm 103:20– Angels do His word.

2 Kings 19:35 – One malak slays 185,000 Assyrians by YaHuWaH’s command.

No Biblical Account of a “Satan” Rebellion

The rebellion of “Lucifer” is a misapplied Christian myth.

There is no single passage showing a once-good angel becoming the ruler of evil.

All “destructive beings” in Scripture operate within divine parameters.

The Real Adversary – The Carnal Mind and Lawlessness

The “Enemy Within”

Romans 8:7– “The carnal mind is enmity against Elohim…”

James 1:14-15 – Temptation arises from within a person’s own lusts.

HaSatan as a Legal Opponent

Functions as a prosecutor in the heavenly court, only when YaHuWaH allows.

Not a “devil with a pitchfork” but a spiritual legal role within covenant context.

Yahusha and the Defeat of the Lie

What Did Yahusha Actually Destroy?

Hebrews 2:14 -“through death He might destroy him that had the power of death – that is, the devil.”

But that “devil” is death itself, not a sentient being.

Through obedience and resurrection, Yahusha exposes the power of sin, death, and the lie.

“Get Behind Me, Satan” – Not a Literal Entity

Yahusha rebuked Peter, not a devil.

Satan here = an obstacle or adversary to Yahusha’s mission.

How the False Satan Doctrine Supports Empire Religion

Spiritual Fear Keeps Believers Passive

Blaming Satan keeps people stuck in fear, waiting for deliverance.

They never see their suffering as a call to return to covenant faithfulness.

Church Doctrine Protects the System

If “Satan” causes destruction, then the institution remains clean.

But if YaHuWaH is the judge, then both church and nation must be held accountable.

Understanding “the Adversary” in a Covenant Context

The Hebrew word “satan” simply means “adversary.” It is a role, not a name. Many individuals and even nations play the role of adversary in Scripture:

Numbers 22:22 — “But the angel of YaHuWaH stood in the way as an adversary (satan) against him.”

1 Kings 11:14 — “And YaHuWaH raised up an adversary (satan) unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite…”

Here, even YaHuWaH’s own angel is a satan! That’s because adversary simply means “one who opposes.” And in covenant, YaHuWaH often raises up adversaries to discipline, correct, or judge His people.

When Yisrael broke covenant, adversaries arose as consequences. There is no external devil lurking in shadows, it is YaHuWaH executing justice through chosen instruments.

Shema, Torah, and the Fear of YaHuWaH

The call to Yisra‘El has always been:

“Hear, O Yisra’El: YaHuWaH our Elohim, YaHuWaH is one. And you shall love YaHuWaH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)

This central command, the Shema, contains no mention of fearing a devil. We are to fear YaHuWaH alone:

Ecclesiastes 12:13 — “Fear Elohim and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

Proverbs 9:10 — “The fear of YaHuWaH is the beginning of wisdom…”

Replacing the fear of YaHuWaH with fear of an external Satan dilutes reverence and produces confusion. It is the fear of YaHuWaH that brings repentance and obedience, not fear of spiritual attack.
