The Dwelling Place of the Fullness

Becoming the Ark of His Covenant – the throne of His Reign within

When YaHuWaH said, “Let them make Me a set-apart place, that I may dwell in their midst,” (Shemoth (Exodus) 25:8-9), He was revealing the eternal purpose of creation, not to dwell among His people only, but within them. The earthly Mishkan (משכן) was merely a pattern, a prophetic shadow of a far greater dwelling: the purified heart that has become His throne.

The word Mishkan comes from the Hebrew root shakan (שכן), meaning “to dwell” or “to settle.” This shows us that YaHuWaH’s desire is not visitation but habitation, a continual indwelling of His Ruach within a people refined as pure gold.

Overlaid with Gold: The Ark Within

The Ark of the Witness represents the inner being of man, the vessel of the Covenant. It was overlaid with zahav (זהב), “gold,” both within and without. According to Klein’s Etymological Dictionary of the Hebrew Language, zahav signifies that which is “refined through fire.” It represents the incorruptible nature that remains after the dross of self is burned away.

So too must the heart be refined, inside and out, by the fire of His Ruach. It is not enough that the outer life looks pure; the inward parts must also shine with the same radiance. Only when both are overlaid with the gold of divine nature can the inner Ark become the seat of His reign.

Guardian of the DaBaR: The Heart as Ark

Within the Ark rested the DaBaR (Word), the living testimony of Covenant. So also, the renewed heart is to become the shamar (שמר), “keeper” and “guardian,” of the DaBaR YaHuWaH.

The Hebrew root shamar means to guard, to hedge about, to preserve. This guarding is not that of a cold sentry, but of a lover watching over the beloved’s heart. The redeemed one protects the inner chamber from strange fire, passions, and thoughts not kindled by Him.

The five senses, eyes, ears, tongue, touch, and thought, become the gatekeepers of the Mishkan within. Once, they served the self-willed nephesh (soul), but now they serve the Sovereign who reigns within. The gate embroidered with gold at the Tabernacle’s entrance beautifully portrays this: self no longer rules, but becomes the servant, guarding what is set-apart for YaHuWaH.

The Sacrifice of Self: The Daily Olah

Every day, the old self must ascend the altar. The Hebrew term olah tamid (עֹלָה תָּמִיד) means “continual ascending offering.” It signifies a life perpetually yielding to the purifying flame.

This is the death of self-rule, the surrender of the mind, emotions, and desires to the Sovereign will of YaHuWaH. The emotions, which form the seat of passion, become korbanot (קרבנות), offerings of intimacy and devotion. The root qarav (קרב) means “to draw near.” Thus, every true offering is an act of nearness, of approaching the One who consumes our divided affections.

No “strange fire” (esh zarah) may be offered, no emotion, thought, or ambition kindled by self. Only the fire that YaHuWaH Himself ignites upon the altar of the heart may burn continually.

The Oneness of the Dwelling: Echad

The word echad (אחד) in Hebrew means far more than “one.” It speaks of unified harmony, many parts functioning together under one Sovereign will. The goal of the high calling is that every part of our being, spirit, soul, and body, comes into perfect alignment under His Reign.

When His Ruach fills the inner being, the Ark within man becomes His throne. The kapporeth (mercy seat) becomes the meeting place, the communion between the Divine and the redeemed. Out of this sacred union flows the fruit of His indwelling:

These are not the fruits of effort, but of habitation. The fruit testifies that the Ark is filled, the inner being ruled, and the throne occupied by its rightful King.

The Enlargement of Being: Rachav

When YaHuWaH dwells within, He enlarges the heart; the Hebrew word rachav (רחב) means “to widen, to expand.”

The heart becomes capable of carrying more of His Presence, more of His compassion, more of His fire. The vessel grows as the Dweller fills it. His zeraʿ (seed) planted within produces His fruit, not our works. The two, the Dweller and the Dwelling, become one.

The Goal of the High Calling

To become the Dwelling Place of the fullness of YaHuWaH is the highest calling of mankind.
To be the Ark of His Covenant within whom the DaBaR is enthroned.
To see self dethroned and the Sovereign enthroned.
To have every sense, every thought, every desire serve as priestly gatekeepers.
To manifest Ached, perfect Oneness under His Reign.

“Do you not know that you are the Dwelling Place of Elohim and that the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you?” – Qorintiyim Aleph (1 Corinthians) 3:16
