Man cannot distinguish or define what sin is according to his own understanding.
Because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim, for it does not subject itself to the Torah of Elohim, neither indeed is it able, and those who are in the flesh are unable to please Elohim.” – Romiyim (Romans) 8:7-8
Sin is not determined by feelings, traditions, or human reasoning; it is defined by the Word of YaHuWaH alone.
Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.” – Yoḥanan Aleph (1 John) 3:4
The word for “lawlessness” in the Greek is ἀνομία (anomia), which means violation of the law, or being without Torah.
In Hebrew, the word for sin is חַטָּאָה (chatta’ah), derived from חָטָא (chata’), which means to miss the mark, to go astray, to deviate from the standard, that standard being the Torah of YaHuWaH.
The heart is crooked above all, and desperately sick, who shall know it?” – Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 17:9
Man’s own understanding is not the measure of righteousness, and it can never be! House Rules! Sorry!
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” – Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 14:12
Only YaHuWaH defines righteousness and sin. His Kingdom and once again His Rules!
And it shall be righteousness for us when we guard to do all this command before YaHuWaH our Elohim, as He has commanded us.” – Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 6:25
To walk outside of His Torah is to walk in sin, regardless of one’s sincerity or intentions.
For not the hearers of the Torah are righteous in the sight of Elohim, but the doers of the Torah shall be declared right.” – Romiyim (Romans) 2:13
Rejecting the Torah is not a difference in doctrine; it is lawlessness.
Yahusha Himself warned:
Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’” – Mattithyahu (Matthew) 7:22–23
If sin is defined as breaking the Torah, then righteousness is defined by guarding and keeping Torah.
Scripture defines YaHuWaH’s House Rules: not man’s understanding of Scripture and the doctrines they have learned through their denominational upbringing and practices.
Let us not trust in our own definitions or feelings.
Let us return to the true standard of righteousness which has been the very standard from the beginning: The Torah of YaHuWaH.
