The Light of His Face

When YaHuWaH lifts His face upon His people, darkness flees, and identity is restored. The light of His face is more than illumination; it is favor, life, and communion. Ephrayim, once hidden in the shadows of exile, now walks again in the radiance of the One who called him out of obscurity into marvelous light.

Mosheh blessed the people, saying, “YaHuWaH bless you and guard you; YaHuWaH make His face shine upon you, and show favor to you; YaHuWaH lift up His face upon you, and give you peace” (Bemidbar (Numbers) 6:24-26). These words, known as the Birkat Kohanim (Priestly Blessing), carry profound spiritual truth. The Hebrew phrase Ya’er YaHuWaH panav aleikha (יָאֵר יְהוָה פָּנָיו עָלֶיךָ), “YaHuWaH make His face shine upon you”, literally means, “May His countenance bring forth light upon you.” To see His face is to encounter His favor and presence.

The word panim (פָּנִים), “face,” is plural in form, suggesting the many facets of YaHuWaH’s presence, His mercy, truth, justice, and love. To behold His face is to be changed by His nature. When Mosheh came down from Mount Sinai, “the skin of his face shone because he had spoken with YaHuWaH” (Shemoth (Exodus) 34:29). The Hebrew word for “shone,” qaran (קָרַן), means “to emit rays, to send forth light.” The same root gives us qeren (קֶרֶן), “horn” or “radiance,” symbolizing power and glory. The encounter with the Word transforms the one who beholds it.

Ephrayim, restored to covenant fellowship, begins to reflect that same light. As the prophet declared, “Arise, shine, for your light has come! And the esteem of YaHuWaH has risen upon you. For look, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness the peoples. But YaHuWaH arises over you, and His esteem is seen upon you” (Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 60:1-2). This is not a distant prophecy; it is the present reality for all who walk in Torah and bear His Name.

The light of His face dispels the confusion of religion and the shadow of self-dependence. It awakens the heart to truth and restores clarity to the path. Dawiḏ prayed, “In Your light we see light” (Tehillim (Psalms) 36:9). To walk in that light is to live in continual awareness of His presence, to see all things through the radiance of His truth.

Yahusha is the visible expression of that light. “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but possess the light of life” (Yoḥanan (John) 8:12). To follow Him is to live face-to-face with the Father, to reflect His glory as a mirror reflects the sun. The restored Ephrayimite does not merely receive light; he becomes a vessel of it.

The Hebrew word for light, or (אוֹר), according to Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon, carries the idea of “illumination that brings order.” This light exposes, heals, and guides. When YaHuWaH’s face shines upon Ephrayim, his confusion turns to clarity, his wandering to purpose, and his exile to belonging.

The world grows darker, but the light of YaHuWaH grows brighter within His people. Ephrayim rises not to boast in his own enlightenment but to display the brilliance of the One who has restored him. The light of His face is the inheritance of the redeemed, the unending radiance of communion with the Eternal.

Selah:
Do you live in the light of His face, or in the shadow of your own understanding? Ask YaHuWaH to lift His countenance upon you, to drive out every trace of darkness, and to make your life a reflection of His esteem. The light that shines upon you is meant to shine through you. You are Ephrayim rising.
