The Testing of Faith
After hearing the voice of YaHuWaH in the wilderness, Ephrayim must learn to trust that voice when the path grows difficult. Every promise is proven through testing, and every heart that claims to walk in covenant must pass through seasons where faith (emunah) is refined like gold.
YaHuWaH does not test to destroy, He tests to establish. As Mosheh reminded Yisra’El, “And you shall remember that YaHuWaH your Elohim led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, prove you, to know what is in your heart, whether you guard His commands or not” (Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 8:2). The proving ground of faith reveals whether obedience flows from convenience or conviction.
The Hebrew word for “test” or “prove” is nasah (נָסָה), meaning “to try, to examine, or to prove by experience.” According to Brown-Driver-Briggs and Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon, nasah conveys a process of revealing the true nature of a thing, as gold is revealed pure through fire. In testing, YaHuWaH exposes what is hidden, not to shame His people, but to strengthen their trust in Him.
Ephrayim’s testing is the measure of his restoration. The same Elohim who brought Yisra’El out of Mitsrayim now leads His scattered ones through a similar wilderness of faith. Every trial becomes an invitation to trust, to believe that the Word spoken is the Word that sustains. Just as manna fell daily, so too does grace descend for those who depend entirely upon Him.
Sha’ul wrote, “So that the proving of your belief, much more precious than gold that perishes, and proven by fire, might be found to result in praise and respect and esteem at the revelation of Yahusha haMashiach” (Kepha Aleph (1 Peter) 1:7). The testing of faith reveals whether Ephrayim’s allegiance belongs to YaHuWaH alone or to the comfort of the world he left behind.
In every generation, YaHuWaH has proven His people, Aḇraham upon the mountain, Mosheh before Pharaoh, and even Yahusha in the wilderness. Each test becomes a testimony that obedience is stronger than fear and that faith is greater than sight.
To pass the test is to remain steadfast, to cling to YaHuWaH when everything else is shaken. Faith is not the absence of trial but endurance through it. The renewed heart does not question whether YaHuWaH is faithful; it rests in knowing that He is.
Selah:
Where is YaHuWaH testing your faith right now? Are you trusting His promises even when you cannot see the outcome? Ask Him to give you steadfastness, to refine your emunah, and to teach you to rest in His unfailing Word. You are not being abandoned in testing; you are being prepared for inheritance. You are Ephrayim rising.
