Building His Kingdom, Not Chasing Shadows

A Hebraic View on Discipline, Purification, and Kingdom Life

Scripture Foundation

Here we are given the foundation: discipline, hardship, and the fiery trials of life are not signs of demonic warfare, but of a Father’s love.

Hebrew Word Study: Order and Establishment

The Hebrew verb kûn (כון) means to be established, fixed, prepared, or ordered (Brown-Driver-Briggs; Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon). It is used in verses like:

This shows that having one’s “house in order” means being firmly established in Torah, aligned with the everlasting covenant, not scattered by fear of external forces.

Another word tied to this theme is tsaraph (צרף), “to smelt, refine, or purify” (Klein’s Etymological Dictionary of the Hebrew Language). Used in places like Zekaryah/Zechariah 13:9, it describes how YaHuWaH Himself refines His people through trials, just as silver is refined in fire.

Thus, when hardship comes, we are not to say “the enemy is attacking,” but rather, “Abba is refining.”

The Misplaced Obsession with “Spiritual Warfare”

Christian tradition has popularized the idea that life is an endless battle with an external Satan who is nearly equal in power to Elohim. This mindset trains believers to spend their days rebuking shadows rather than submitting to the Father. Yet Scripture declares clearly:

Notice – YaHuWaH takes responsibility for both peace and calamity. Nowhere do we see His prophets or His people constantly looking for “hasatan under every rock.” Instead, they acknowledged that YaHuWaH brings both blessing and judgment according to His covenant.

Iyoḇ (Job) understood this when he declared:

The Father’s Refining Fire

Trials are not random attacks; they are purposeful purifications. YaHuWaH promises to use difficulties to remove dross from our lives:

The true “warfare” is not against some cosmic adversary, but against the stubbornness of our flesh that resists being refined.

Building His Kingdom Within Us

Yahusha instructed us:

This is the Kingdom-focus. Every day is not a battlefield of “binding demons,” but a call to build His Kingdom in our lives, ordering our homes, guarding our hearts, walking uprightly, and allowing His Torah to shape us.

Tehillim (Psalms) 119:165 tells us:

Shalom is the fruit of a house established in Torah, not a life spent fearing constant attack.

Discipline as Covenant Love

Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 8:5 says:

Discipline is the covenant love of a Father training His children to be a set-apart nation. When we face trials, we are not to assume “the enemy is after me,” but rather, “Abba is correcting me.”

The Torah makes clear that the curses and hardships that befall Yisra’El are direct consequences of covenant disobedience, not the workings of an external adversary. (Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 28).

A Call to Maturity

A life of constant “spiritual warfare” is a life of immaturity, forever blaming an external foe instead of yielding to the refining fire of YaHuWaH. The mature walk is one of emunah (אֱמוּנָה), faithful trust and obedience, recognising that every circumstance is an opportunity to be conformed to the likeness of Yahusha, the obedient Son.

As Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 3:11-12 declares:

So let us stop searching for “hasatan under every rock” and instead look to the Rock of our deliverance, Yahusha. Let us order our houses, walk in Torah, receive discipline as sons, and build His Kingdom in every part of our lives.
